Apparently they are back in vogue.
When I wrote mine, I argued (unsuccessfully) with a number of editors and agents that the campus novel was never out of fashion. How could it be? A lot of us spend the best years of our lives at uni – or, at any rate, certainly some of the oddest, and the freest. Or perhaps they were the worst years of your life? Perhaps you went and wished you hadn’t? Perhaps you didn’t go and wish you had? Well, these days there’s a remedy for that last wish: the Open University.
And guess which university my campus novel was set in? Yup, the university that has a campus, and more students than any other university. But the two almost never exist together …
